A Last Chance for the Republican Party

The 2014 election is history. There is only one way to accurately describe it - a total rout of the Democrat party and a repudiation of Obama policies. Our nation stands on the brink of disaster as a result of six years of one-party domination of the political scene. During those six years the Democrats, under the leadership of Barack Obama, have run rampant over the Republican Party and the American people. Obama has essentially made the Republicans in Congress invisible, at least in legislative terms. He has totally ignored any requirement called for by the Constitution to have laws enacted by Congress. He has chosen, instead, to rule by Executive Order.

This six year, one-party rampage has brought the American people an unbelievable invasion of their privacy and their constitutional rights. In the area of healthcare we have had Obamacare jammed down our throats with a continuous stream of lies from the president of the United States, a practice he continues to this day. He has stated repeatedly that citizens may keep their health insurance if they like it. That's what he says but his actions and the actions of those in his administration who are in charge of Obamacare prove that is not the case. And where were the Republicans when all this was happening? They were busy feathering their nest and making sure that they had plenty of opportunities for photo ops to produce votes that would keep them in their exalted positions. On January 1, 2015 the Republicans should institute legislation to repeal Obamacare. They should either take their own survey of the American people or select some of the many surveys that show the American people do not want Obamacare. They want it repealed. The bill, along with the survey, should be sent to the president as quickly as possible and make him defend an untenable position before a disgruntled American public.

In the area of civil liberties, all Americans became victims of the Obama administration by the recording of all telephone calls and emails. I personally find it strange that while all this was happening the Republican Party members in the House and the Senate were totally ineffective or totally uninterested in doing anything about it. If they did anything other than make speeches, there is absolutely nothing to show for it. In fact, during the 2014 election there wasn't even a promise to do something about it. On January 1, 2015 the Republicans should create a bill that stops this vicious intrusion into the lives of American citizens. They should send along with the bill, surveys showing the American people want this senseless intrusion into their privacy stopped, and stopped immediately. Once again this would place the onus on president Barack Obama and he would have to make the case for the continuation of this unpopular and unwanted activity.

If the Republicans do not want, or are unable, to carry out the wishes of the people that were made abundantly clear in the landslide election of 2014, then there is another area that cries out for their attention. That is the area of illegal immigration. Failure on the part of the Republicans to act, and act decisively, on this issue could well be their Waterloo. If Obama succeeds in getting amnesty for illegal aliens, he will then be free to take the next obvious step and have them registered to vote (as Democrats, of course). Such a plurality of voters that will give the Democrats so great a majority at the polls that the Republican Party might as well close up shop and go back home, for they will never win another election.

These are just three of the many things that caused the American people to rise up against the policies of Barack Obama and his Democrat cohorts. The American people have placed in the hands of the Republican Party a mandate to stop Obama in his tracks. They did not vote out the Democrats so Republicans could cooperate with them. They want action and anything other than a direct repeal of those abusive and intrusive activities by the federal government will not do. Remember, in the last six years with Obama and his Democrats in total control, there wasn't even a hint of cooperation between the parties. The Democrats had no intention of cooperating. That should be the rule for as long as Republicans have the upper hand.

This is the last chance for the Republican Party. They can come out fighting in 2015 and show the American people how the Republicans would do things differently - with respect for the American citizen and a genuine determination to uphold the constitution of the United States. They should make the restoration of the Constitution their very first priority. The Democrat's unpopular (and illegal) actions have provided Republicans with the opportunity to save themselves, and with them, the American people.

Americans have stood at the crossroads before. Our very existence is proof that when it was needed most, men of honor saw what needed to be done and accepted the challenge. They never hesitated and never worried when the odds were against them. The thought of failure never entered their minds. Witness the actions of Taffy 3.

During World War II, in the early hours of October 25 1944, the ships of task group Taffy 3 took on a Japanese naval force of 11 destroyers, 2 light cruisers, 6 heavy cruisers, and 4 battleships, including the super battleship Yamato, the largest battleship ever built. The ships of Taffy 3 consisted of 6 escort carriers, 4 destroyers, and 3 destroyer escorts. The combined weight of all the ships in Taffy 3 was less than the weight of the Yamato alone. In just 2 morning hours, this pitiful little American force beat back a vastly superior Japanese force. So ferocious was the American attack that it caused the Japanese fleet to turn tail and run. Taffy 3 received a Presidential Citation for its gallant effort. Historian Samuel Morrison explained it this way, "In no engagement in its entire history has the United States Navy shown more gallantry, guts and gumption than in those two morning hours between 0730 and 0930 off Samar".

Once again we stand at the cross roads. The only thing between the American people and the total destruction of our way of life is a Republican congress. God help us if they don't show the gallantry, guts, and gumption needed to preserve what has been passed down to them by the sacrifices of past Americans.
