Throwback: The Unelected Shadow Government

America’s next president will inherit more than a bitterly divided nation.

He or she will also inherit a shadow government: a permanent, corporatized, militarized, entrenched bureaucracy that is fully operational and staffed by unelected officials who are, in essence, running the country.

In fact, the FBI’s latest release of Hillary Clinton documents includes references to the existence of a shadow government working behind the scenes to control what information gets out about Clinton.

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

As it now stands, this shadow government—unaffected by elections, unaltered by populist movements, and beyond the reach of the law—poses the greater threat to our freedoms.

This is the hidden face of a government that has no respect for the freedom of its citizenry.

As I pointed out in a vodcast a year ago (see below for the link), the antics of the 2016 presidential candidates are intended to distract Americans from the fact that they have no authority and no rights in the face of the shadow government.

This is the real menace against which we fight.

We’re using every resource at our disposal—lawsuits, amicus briefs, public policy papers, vodcasts, podcasts, demand letters, position papers, op-eds, legislative testimony, radio spots—in order to push back against the shadow government’s power plays and sound the alarm over the government’s betrayal, but these things take time and money.

Remember, elections come and go, but the real work of keeping freedom alive in this country never ends.

As long as government officials—elected and unelected alike—are allowed to operate beyond the reach of the Constitution, the courts and the citizenry, the threat to our freedoms remains undiminished.

As a reminder of all the good that your donations help us to do, here’s the vodcast we issued a year ago about the menace of the Shadow Government.
